White shirt project

The title of our latest project is "You are to obtain a plain white shirt and you are given the title 'Domestic Bliss'". I started by drawing a simple illustration of a white shirt. This is nothing like any brief I have been given before so I found this challenging.

I then thought of any garment that one would associate with 'Domestic Bliss' - an apron. I spotted some similarities between the white shirt and the apron and created a 'shirt-apron'. It is a more masculine alternative to the stereoytypica;y 'girly' apron. This invention created a train of thought about the sexist attitudes many have about house-work and anything that is considered 'domestic' - this tends to be classed as a woman's job.

I made a mind map to collect more ideas and try to make connections between the white shirt and 'Domestic Bliss'.

The first room in the house I associate with  'Domestic' was the kitchen. In my mind map, I found a connection between a washing machine and a white shirt. Here is my guide of 'How to wash a shirt' - I have presented it in a comic strip form.

I then tried to make a connection between a refridgerator and a white shirt. I spotted the similarity between the appearance of a wardrobe and a fridge. Here is a humerous illustration of a shirt hung up in a fridge with the words 'Your shirt is cool'.
